In each of Glen Slauenwhite's many lifetime activities, he assumed a dominant and effective leadership role, a role which benefited society for a period of over 50 years and which proved to be a major contributor to the success of his many ventures. In 1985, while serving on the Executive of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, he carried out fact-finding missions to Australia and New Zealand. In 1988, he successfully repeated these missions in Iron Curtain countries of Europe resulting in cooperative activities which improved safety and contributed to improvement of lifesaving methods in all these countries. These activities resulted in his award of Honourary Life Membership in the International Fire Chiefs Association in 1997.

He was recognized for his commitment to the community in April 1996 when the Mayor of the Halifax Regional Municipality dedicated a park at the corner of Glendale Drive and Metropolitan Avenue in the name of Glen Slauenwhite. His many other successful accomplishments are indicated in the attached list of awards.
Mr. Slauenwhite was an exceptional role model and preeminent example for past, present, and future citizens and leaders of our community. With wisdom, foresight and determination he motivated and inspired community organizations and associations, and quietly guided and inspired their members to higher levels of participation and greater devotion to their cause.
