Sackville School Wins Battle of the Books Championship
Students from Leslie Thomas Junior High School competed against Sir John A. MacDonald High School on May 17th winning the championship in the Battle of the Books final round with a score of 78 to 70.
The Battle of the Books, a yearly competition since 1986, is organized through Woozles book store. Each school that competes is provided with a list of books to read and enters a quiz-style contest about authors, characters and events from these books.
A group of 20 students from Leslie Thomas began preparing for this competition last October. Through the process of in-school competitions four students, Rachel Whitlock, Kirsten Osmond, Abby Corbin and Jordan Feltmate, were selected to represent their school. These students went on to compete through four rounds of competition before emerging as the champions.
Each student was awarded a Woozles gift certificate and a selection of books as well as a Woozles gift certificate presented to Leslie Thomas Junior High School. Congratulations to Librarian Marlo MacKay and her team for all their hard work.
