Beacon House Dinner Auction
On April 20, 2005, the Fourth Annual Beacon House Dinner Auction was held at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel. As many know, Beacon House provides food and clothing to those in our community who need help, whether it is temporary or more long term. Approximately 18 months ago, Beacon House was moved to 470 Cobequid Road, which provided a larger facility. Along with the obvious benefits of the move, came a mortgage that needed to be paid for. The money that is raised at the annual dinner goes towards paying off that mortgage.
In the previous three years the dinner auction raised a total of $150,000. This year alone $79,000 was raised. Much credit and praise goes to the dinner committee members along with the many sponsors and donors who are too numerous to mention.
The MC for the evening was Paul Pettipas and the auctioneer for the live portion of the auction was Barry Barnet. C P Allen Band was on hand to entertain during the dinner and did a wonderful job. Some of the notable items during the live auction were a sky box for 8 at the Halifax Metro Centre, a freshwater pearl and Swarovski Crystal necklace and earring set, a dinner for eight at the Westin Nova Scotian, a Holly Carr miniature, and an original 5 x 7 Robert Bateman original for a "Great Horned Owl" which itself went for $5,100. This is only a small sampling of the many live auction items which were available, not to mention the many silent auction items there as well.
This is a great event, year after year, and is for a wonderful cause. Again a great job by the committee members, who organize this event each year and we look forward to number five.
