Sackville Kinette's Annual Dinner Theatre
On March 6th and 7th, the Sackville Kinette's hosted their annual
dinner theatre entitled "Mama Wants A New Outhouse".
It was an original play, written by Verna Dunlop and directed by
Michele Wilson. The players were Ferne Mardlin-Smith, Darryl O'Leary,
Leah Cameron, Jamie Quann, Melanie O'Leary and Andrea Graham. MLA,
Barry Barnet and HRM Councillor, Brad Johns made special cameo
appearances, to the surprise and delight of the audience. The play is
about a family trying to build a new outhouse without paying the $100
building permit fee. It incorporates two politician’s into the tale and
while the audience thinks Barry and Brad are there for the meal and
performance alone, they are surprised to see them jump to their feet at
the beginning of the third act to make their acting debut. Songs were
performed by Gary LeBlanc and Leslie Graham.
Along with the actors, special mention has to be made to the volunteers
behind the scenes. To those who prepared and served the wonderful meal,
interacted with the audience between acts, prepared the set decorations,
and all those extra jobs too numerous to mention; they all helped to
make it an extra special evening.
Both performances played to a packed house and everyone seemed to have
a great time. All proceeds from the dinner theatre were in support of
Cystic Fibrosis and Multiple Sclerosis. Thank you to the Kinette's of
Sackville and the community for their support.
