Acadia
Hall was built in 1924 when a group of community members
decided that a community hall was needed. The Acadia Club,
which was formed in 1920, held a meeting in April of 1924 in
the Old Temperance Hall and with the Sackville community
firmly behind them, project plans were put into place. Land
was acquired from Arthur Schultz, on what is now 650 Sackville
Drive, in order to house the new facility.
Because of lack of readily available funds, club members went
from door to door to acquire donations of materials, while
others provided the labour in order to build the
hall.
During
its early years, Acadia Hall was used as a meeting place for
the community, a school auditorium, a community picnic site or
used to hold church suppers. It has been host to many wedding
receptions as well as serving as the only polling station in
Sackville in early years. Over the years, Acadia Hall has
become a "village land mark" that is still central
to many community events.
Throughout the years the Club operated as Sackville's oldest
non-profit organization. A Board of Directors, elected within
its membership each year, now operates it and the facility is
available to rent for many community functions at 488-8070.
